SL Discovery Presents: The Great SL Toque Hunt. What is a toque you ask? It's a winter hat. Hunters will be searching for a winter hat filled with your goodies. The Great SL Toque Hunt will take place from December 21st to January 21st. Why December 21st? This is the first day of winter, appropriate start date for a winter themed hunt.

There will be a 150 shop limit to this hunt. Applications will be accepted until November 30th, or until we reach the 150 shop limit. Please make sure to fill the application out completely, incomplete applications may keep you from being accepted into the hunt. Change the name of the notecard to reflect the name of your shop where indicated. Applications should be sent to Lunatic Daffyd.

Please feel free to send in a seperate application for more than one shop, however, due to the shop limits vendors who send in applications for more than one shop MAY be asked to pick one to join the hunt in order to allow for more vendors to participate.

To keep the hunt friendly to ALL avatars, including the kid avs, shops that only have a location on an ADULT sim cannot be accepted. Shops on mature sims that require age verification in order to tp in will be place near the end of the hunt in order to allow for a less interupted chain.

Vendors will be informed AFTER the 30th (or when we reach 150) as to acceptance into the hunt. We'll be setting up a Subscriber for the vendors so that we can keep you informed of hunt updates and information. Upon acceptance we'll send you the information on where to go to subscribe. Vendors who have not subscribed by a set date will be removed from the hunt.

Hallelujah Azul Art Walk

The Hallelujah Azul Art Walk, an open-air exhibition featuring the work of fifteen artists, opened on the 14^th of November. The exhibition will be open through the end of November. The artist media includes; RL painting, photography, and collage, enhanced SL photography, SL sculptural builds, and others. The venue, Hallelujah Azul is a “small town” SIM and is owned and managed by Gwendolyn Bieler. The artists exhibiting include; Daire Aeon, Sasha Bazilinski, Bayley Boucher, Therese Carfagno, Amarynth Emmons, Bobbi Laval, Skarat Lefebvre, Lingual Markus, nessuno Myoo, Lubnatsi Papp, Juliete3d Quinzet, Sistagrlro Wei, Nevar Whitfireld, Clementine Whitt and Dorothy Urvilan.

At her invitation I stopped over a day after the opening for quick view and a short chat about the exhibit.

Nazz: Hello Gwendolyn, it's a pleasure to meet you and thank you for the invitation to the opening. Sorry that I couldn't make it.

Gwendolyn: Hi Nazz … let me show you outdoors … the show is outdoors, this way.

Nazz: You're the owner then?

Gwendolyn: I'm the owner of the SIM, yes … and I've organized and curated the art walk.

Nazz: This is nicely laid out and the area is a well done build.

Gwendolyn: Thanks, we have fifteen artists here with about seventy pieces of art.

Nazz: How long is the exhibition open?

Gwendolyn: For two weeks, until November 30^th.

Nazz: It's all presented along the walkway here then?

Gwendolyn: It is … around the perimeter and in the town square … then it continues around to the right all around the square … you can get a good feel of the layout in a birds eye-view. Let me show you … paintings and sculpture. This one of my favorite pieces “The Guitarist” by nessuno Myoo.

Nazz: It is nicely done … highly detailed. Are you in the arts in real life?

Gwendolyn: My training is, yes, but I'm not working professionally in the arts right now. I am thrilled with the quality of the work this event attracted … these pieces right here by Nevar Whitfield are among my favorites as well and there is some of the best Second Life photography I have ever seen here in the exhibit … Clementine Whitt, Therese Carfagno, Amarynth Emmons, to name a few.

Monday, Nov. 23 – Monday Night Music at Hallelujah Azul … enjoy three hours of live performances by some of SL's most popular musicians. Several of our guest artists will be in attendance at the party to chat informally about their work. Performances are streamed SIM-wide, so you can browse the Art Walk while listening to the shows. shellina Winkler Exhibition at TANALOIS2 di Alo e Tani

I happened to catch the opening of shellina Winkler's latest exhibition at the TANALOIS2 di Alo e Tani where it opened this past Thursday, the 19^th of November. She has five large immersive pieces that will be on exhibit until the 12^th of December. As she explained to me, “They are not new but as you can see quite big to be exhibited and they are all set around in a winter spot”.

The opening was attended by a large crowd and the SIM, one of the Homestead SIMs, was rather laggy. It took me quite awhile to go through several of the pieces. There is one piece that drew most of my attention while I was there, “Luminescence”. It was while standing inside and being immersed within the luminescence of the piece, and draped in a full spectrum of colors that Ms Winkler stepped inside as well. When I commented on the consistency and intensity of colors she said in reply.

“What I pay attention mostly is that colors mustn't be disturbed while one is inside the work or the movements of textures.”

“So there is no loss of color with an avatar present?”

“Yes, exactly.” She replied.

It's a trip worth taking to view the work of this very talented artist.

From the Library: The Light Programme

The latest monthly show in our Light Programme series, showcasing 20th Century British Light Music, today features the work of the multi-talented William Alwyn (1905-1985). As well as a composer, Alwyn was an accomplished artist and poet and was at one time principal flautist of the LSO. As a composer, Alwyn was essentially from the late Romantic line of composers, writing in the same vein as William Walton.

Alwyn was perhaps best known for his film scores, of which he wrote over 70 between the war years and 1962. His classic scores included Odd Man Out, Desert Victory, Fires Were Started, The History of Mr Polly, The Fallen Idol, The Black Tent and The Crimson Pirate. Until recently, these scores were not available on record, but now quite a few are out on CD, thanks largely to the work of Philip Lane, who has reconstructed the scores from the original films as written scores did not exist. You can read about some of his work here. In addition to Alwyn, Lane has worked on film music by another of our favourite composers here on The Light Programme, Richard Addinsell. You'll hear film scores from both composers today, often performed under the baton of Gavin Sutherland.

In addition to Alwyn's film scores, we'll hear his Elizabethan Dances, a set of six dance pieces written for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II - which alternate between modern styles and those of the first Elizabethan period - and his impressive Festival March, commissioned for the Festival of Britain, held on London's South Bank from May 1951. An artist's impression of the Festival appears above, and you can learn more about the Festival, which showcased British invention and was intended to provide a "tonic to the nation". It was attended by over 8.5 million people between May and September 1951. As with most hunts once a starting location has been set you will be provided with LM and the next location in the hunt once you claim your first gift. For example, store #1 will give landmark to store #2, store #2 will give landmark to store #3, and so on… until it finishes.

Gift will be hidden somewhere in the store and you will be looking for a shoe that we will provide you as a prim.

Designers will have a choice to use items that are currently sold at their store or create exclusive items that will only be available for the duration of the hunt. They also have an option to provide you with store cards.

This hunt is also circular, so when you get to the end, the last landmark will direct you to first location. This means even if you start the hunt in a middle you will still get to visit and discover all participating stores.

The objective of this hunt is to present nice stores of shoes and accessories, like belts, bags, hair with hats and hats only. These is an unisex hunt.

metaLIFE Partnership Going Strong!

With the recent announcement by Linden Labs about XstreetSL freebies, I wanted to remind you about our ongoing partnership with metaLIFE and the Art Gallery Owner's group as a great alternative and addition to XstreetSL.

This partnership will help gallery owners and artists like you better connect with your customers by helping art lovers travel to your in-world galleries and making it easy for people to shop for your art from anywhere in Second Life.

The metaLIFE platform is both:

A grid-wide system for easy sales/affiliated sales/shopping
A landmark database of interesting locations across Second Life

My Art Galleries of SL kiosks are already integrated with the metaLIFE travel database, which means when someone rates an art gallery via the art gallery kiosks or tour HUDs, those votes are automatically forwarded to the metaLIFE travel database, making them accessible all across the grid. This is a great way for all of the artists and art gallery owners involved with metaLIFE to work together under a common, recognizable quality brand name to help promote art in SL.

To sell art under the "Art Galleries of SL" Brand:

Go to the Art Galleries of SL metaBrand page and click the JOIN button to join the brand.
Inform Sasun Steinbeck and she will promote you to Seller status. Anyone applying to sell under this brand must be approved personally by Sasun before joining. Only approved art dealers will be allowed in.
Rez the Art Galleries of SL branded metaLIFE vendor from the package you were given where you want to sell items.

When someone buys something from one of your vendors, you will earn 5% commission on everything under the "Art Galleries of SL" brand sold by your vendor!

Once you are promoted to Seller status, your items marked for sale under the "Art Galleries of SL" brand will automatically show up for sale in all branded vendors across the grid. To do this:

Kayako Mayako and The Use of 3D Teaching Tools - Community Forum

We find her work to be “state of the art” and invite you all to come and see this event today for inspiration and tips on how to create innovative and nimble materials for teaching in a 3D environment.

Starting at the age of 16 he began performing live for audiences then went on to play guitar and keyboards in several local rock bands in the early 90's. He perform rock music and love songs ranging from the 60's to the present, covering bands and artists such as: The Doors, Pink Floyd, Blue October, Snow Patrol, and Nine Inch Nails. As a recording engineer he produce many of the backing tracks he use for live performances.

From the Library: Music from My Father, Part II

Last week, I played a program called "Music from my Father" which consisted of music taken directly from my father's music library. All of the music from last week's program was classical music, from the Baroque to Romantic eras.

This week, I am proud to present Part II of this program, which focuses on Jazz, Popular Standards from the early to mid 20th Century, as well as a healthy dose of Bluegrass and Cowboy songs! I remember sitting with my Dad, when I was about 12, watching old Roy Rogers movies. He was a huge fan of those movies and the music that they contained.

To me, my Dad will always be the Cowboy with the White Hat.
