Photo of the day - wrapped Nissan GTR.

A friend of POTN (Ralph from Strachan & Windram) stopped by the other day in his newly skinned Nissan GTR R35. It was originally Silver, but he's now opted for the Matte Black wrap.

It was wrapped by the Ben and the guys at Totally Dynamic in Leicester, and the finish is remarkable, it definitely brings the wrap in-line as a serious alternative to the re-spray.

Opinion's are mixed at POTN;

Baz - “A quality alternative to an expensive re-spray.”

Amy - “I think wrapping is the thing for 2010, looks great and takes a few days but worth the wait. Looks fab!”

Dunc - “Not sure about the colour, but the wrap is really well done.”

Me - “That's not for me, can't beat a good old respray.”

Big Si - “The matte black looks fantastic, really mean and imposing but fits the car beautifully.”

Which Pipercross induction kit is right for you?

Induction kits are the ultimate in instant power gains, but which should you choose?

At POTN we want to help you out, so we thought we'd comment on the four most important aspects of a kit. We'll be looking at;

Technology.

Sound.

Power (no bhp figures, power improvements are greater with each step-up in kit).

Price.

Want it now?

Let us begin…

For the ultimate all-rounder you'll be looking for the Pipercross Induction Kit. This is entry level but provides the quickest and easiest solution to instant power gains.

Increased air flow.

More power.

Sporty sound.

From £69.

Want it now?

For a larger increase in both power and sound you can step-up to the Pipercross Venom. This provides improved features of the standard kit but is also universal so the fitment range is huge.

Double conical enclosed design for increased surface area.

Smooth induction roar.

Dyno-proven results.

From £107.

Want it now?

If the Venom doesn't rev your engine, then it's bigger, more refined brother, the Pipercross Viper will help you out. It provides the same great airflow technology but adds an improved casing ensuring your air is kept smooth flowing and cool, again increasing power.

Sealed unit cold air intake, with carbon fibre heatshield.

Deep induction roar.

Noticeable improvement in mid range performance.

From £150.

Want it now?

Some of you lucky people will discover that the Pipercross VIS is made for your car. There are limited fitments due to the extensive power gains and technology used for this kit. If there's one available, then this is undoubtedly the one for you! The ULTIMATE induction kit.

Tuned length carbon fibre air intake, developed with F1 and WRC technology.

Smooth, deep induction roar.

HUGE power increase.

From £200.

Six strange animals, but which is the most unusual?

Working with reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates I get to see my fair share of strange animals.

Below are 6 animals that I found in the shop today that I think are a little bit unusual. I'd be interested to hear which you think is the weirdest, or the most wonderful.

Albino Soft Shelled Turtles

Soft Shelled Turtles are freshwater turtles originally from China. They spend most of their time sifting through the sand for small insects and other invertebrates to eat. Like the vast majority of freshwater turtles they come onto land to bask in the sun. Their long nose enables them to breathe air without leaving the water, to stay hidden. Albinism just makes these guys look even stranger!

Pacman Frogs

These brightly coloured ‘blobs' are possibly the most voracious predators in the shop. Originating from South America, Pacman Frogs will literally eat anything moving that fits into their enormous mouths. This includes fingers, so use tweezers when feeding! It's easy to see where they got their name from, although these guys are nowhere near as active as the original Pacman!

Monkey Tailed Skinks

These pre-historic looking skinks are the only member is their genus making them quite unique. They originate from the rainforest canopies of the Solomon Islands where they live exclusively on vegetation. Monkey Tailed Skinks give birth to live young and have excellent parental skills compared to many other reptiles. Their prehensile tail acts as a 5th limb, making them outstanding climbers.

Axolotls

Axolotls are very unusual indeed. They are neotenic Salamanders, meaning they do not need to metamorphosize into adult salamanders at any stage during their life. They even reproduce whilst in this fully aquatic larval stage. They also have amazing powers of regeneration and quickly regrow a limb if they were to lose it. If their environment was to dry up, they can transform into ‘adults'. Amazing animals.

Tailless Whip Scorpion

Although these guys are Arachnids, they are neither scorpions or spiders. They have their own separate order. Like spiders and scorpions they are hunters and eat any insects they can catch. They get their name from their two front legs which have been modified into long ‘whips'. These are used for locating prey when hunting.

Albino Tangerine Milk Snakes

There's nothing unusual about Milk Snakes, or even Tangerine Milk Snakes, but this albino morph is a little different. It's no different to care for than any other Milk Snake but the colours on it are just sensational. It may not be to everybody's taste and a lot of people say she looks odd but she a definite head turner. Comfortably the most striking snake in the building!

Your Thoughts

The animals above are my own personal selection, but what do you think?
Small tips come top in 2009 exhaust trends.

The round inward curl is a real winner for you modders at the moment, the 76mm being top of the table.

Here's a run-down of the top 5 best selling exhaust tips from Peco.

In fact, the top three spots were all round inward curls;

76mm Round Inward Curl.

89mm Round Inward Curl.

100mm Round Inward Curl.

Fourth place went to a twist on the classic twin exit, in the form of the 83mm x 67mm Twin Squared Oval.

In fifth place is a cracking set of tips in the 76mm Round Slash Cut Twin Inward Curl.

In summary, small tips and in particular round inward curls have been popular due to their practicality. Gone are the days when bigger/louder is better. These smaller bore exhausts give better performance, and that's where the emphasis has shifted to, performance!

No matter what tip you choose, Peco exhausts still provide the quality that counts, and that's why we're telling you about them, we trust their brand. Peco have been manufacturing exhausts for 45 years and they show this by giving all systems and backboxes a 2 year warranty. Every Peco exhaust has been painstakingly developed using an in house rolling road test to guarentee you see the most performance possible.

What will be the next style shift in the exhaust market? Leave your predictions in the comments box.

4 reasons why Peco means quality…

All stainless systems are formed using 304 grade stainless steel - this means you get a durable exhaust that is also lightweight.

There's a huge range of tailpipe options - you can customize the look and stand out from the crowd.

Peco stainless systems give 5 - 7% more power, this is checked using their in house rolling road. more power = more pleasure.

Peco stainless systems have a lifetime warranty.

Alloy Wheel fitment guide - your car listed by PCD (studs) & ET (offset)

Looking for what wheels fit your car?

This is not designed for experts so don't quote me verbatim on this. If you want that go to a specialist forum and you'll have dozens of people who can give you advice. It's a beginners guide. Most guides which are wayy too technical. If it helped please leave a comment and link back to it for others.

Rim Size:

1) Nobody buys smaller wheels that factory fitment, unless they are on medication.
2) Take the factory fitment size and you can add around 1, 2 or 3 inches.
3) Bigger you go, thinner the tyre profile and firmer the ride.
4) When you go extra large (say 3+ inches over original), your handling will start to be compromised.
5) Rim width is for people who understand what they want. Basic setup is 15×6.5 17×7 18×8, can go wider, not skinnier.

PCD:

(number of studs and how far they are apart from each other in mm, ie. 4 studs / 98mm apart. This is shown as 4×98)
Got it?

ET:

(also referred to as ‘OFFSET'. Some fitments below don't list it. No ET listed means most wheels will fit with a common offset) This makes sure your wheels fit flush with the arches and don't stick out like Carlos Fandango (coolest guy ever) or a too far in like a Lexus RX (this needs SPACERS guys!!!) Your car uses a unique offset, but it can be changed to suit your style in relation to the body line of the vehicle,

1) Realistically you can go 5-7mm outside these recommendations in direct replacements. You can go much wider with arch work too.
2) Always consult a technician if you are unsure, as there are often other factors that need to be considered.

Most importantly, have fun. Your about to make your car look 100x better.

Disclaimer. This information is accurate to our knowledge but don't go and buy any wheels until you have double checked with another source too. POTN double check all orders and gurantee fitment, so it's cool to order from us
