The Morningstar Buoy Haus Beach Resort is about the closest you can get to a private island atmosphere without ever having to leave St. Thomas.

Partly that’s a function of geography: located at the foot of a massive cliff guarding Charlotte Amalie Harbor, the resort feels particularly isolated despite its close proximity to both the capital city of the U.S. Virgin Islands and its sister resort, the Westin Beach Resort & Spa at Frenchman’s Reef, which sits atop the cliff.

But style also plays a role: the hotel lobby, with its open walls and flowing curtains, establishes a sense of laid-back elegance that extends along the shoreline to the resort’s equally chill (and open-air) restaurant, a pool area that gives off a beach club vibe, and 94 guest rooms arrayed in a village-like gathering of modern, low-rise buildings.

The oceanfront pool.

Relaxing on a lounge chair by the small (but right-sized for the resort) infinity-edge pool is an obvious move, but guests will also find the lobby area a surprisingly serene spot with its marine themed board games and cozy couches that seem perfect for curling up, book in one hand and a scratch-made cocktail in the other. As evening settles in, so do couples drawn to outdoor fire pits surrounded by more comfortable seating.

Newly opened, the hotel’s Isla Blue restaurant attracts guests from both on and off property; both the a la carte menu and an eight-course chef’s tasting menu can be enjoyed in the breezy dining room or, for special occasions, a beach cabana. The Isla Blue menu skews toward fine-dining options like grilled Caribbean lobster and imported tomahawk steaks, and yes you can start your meal with caviar here; Spanish tapas and small plates offer a lighter and more affordable option at the adjacent Sandbar bar/eatery.

A room with a view at Buoy Haus.

Located by the pool, the Salt Shack is a bright and cheerful space under a bamboo roof that serves three meals daily; island influences find their way into dishes like the ground provisions risotto made with local pumpkin, greens, mushrooms and coconut milk, chicken roti that hits the spot as a quick lunch grab on the beach, and a local take on eggs Benedict that’s built around johnnycakes and salt fish.

The Buoy Haus has kayaks and Hobie sailboats reserved for guest use, as well as a nicely equipped fitness center that’s blessedly air conditioned. If a bit of restlessness sets in, the benefits of staying at this Marriott Autograph Collection resort includes full access to the amenities at the Westin, accessible via a stroll down the beach and an elevator (or a shuttle bus) that takes guests to the top of the cliff. Other than the restaurants, however, all Buoy Haus amenities are reserved exclusively for guests of the beachfront boutique hotel.

Guests who want to wake up to a view of the Caribbean Sea can do so, but even the garden-view villas at the Buoy Haus are no more than a few steps to the sand and shore. There are two, two-bedroom suites, but the majority of accommodations are 335-square-foot, one-bedroom suites with a maximum occupancy of three guests.

All rooms have private balconies, flat-screen TVs, air conditioning, and high-speed internet access.

Like the Buoy Haus as a whole, the guest rooms are designed for maximum comfort and minimal stress in a quintessential St Thomas setting — one that makes if feel like you have an entire little island to yourself.

That includes nonstop service between West Palm Beach and Nassau, along with nonstop service between West Palm Beach and Marsh Harbour in Abaco.

Silver has been on an expansion push both in The Bahamas and in the Caribbean out of its San Juan hub, with the latter adding new routes to destinations like Antigua and La Romana, among others.

It was a tiny beach town, tucked amid mangroves and Mayan ruins, the stomping ground of yogis and artists and creative types.

In the last decade, though, the Mexican Caribbean town of Tulum has exploded, surging into one of the hippest, most in-demand places to visit in the Caribbean Basin.

What was once the home of boutique hotels and wellness retreats is now a development hotspot, with major brands like Hilton, Kimpton and Marriott all entering the market and real estate projects popping up all over the town, from the jungle to the sand.

The new Kimpton in Tulum.

But the biggest change is happening later this month, when Tulum’s brand new international airport begins welcoming flights from the United States.

The new Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport was officially inaugurated in December, and is already handling domestic traffic on carriers like Viva and Aeromexico.

The Hilton Tulum.

In the next few weeks, the major American air carriers will begin connecting the US and Tulum — a significant boon for the destination and for travelers, who will be able to shave off what is a nearly two-hour driving trip between Cancun and Tulum.

It’s a who’s who of American carriers: Delta, Spirit, United, American and JetBlue, all of which will be flying between the US and Tulum beginning March 28.

Delta will kick things off, with service between Atlanta and Tulum; on March 28, American will launch with service from Charlotte, Miami and Dallas-Fort Worth.

Spirit will be operating routes to Tulum from Orlando and Fort Lauderdale on the 28th.

On March 31, United will begin nonstop flights from four source cities: Newark, Los Angeles, Houston and Chicago (part of a bigger Mexico expansion that includes more flights to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and San Jose del Cabo).

Then, in June, JetBlue begins service out of New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The Virgin Islands Boating Expo will take place May 10-12, 2024 at Yacht Haven Grande St. Thomas, the USVI’s top yachting destination.

This boutique destination show, hosted by the Virgin Islands Professional Charter Association, ticks the top three boxes of what yacht buyers today want in a yacht sales experience: the ability to yacht shop, wine and dine, and stay and play — making for a unique kind of boat show-meets-food-festival event.

“We welcome our attendees, both the public and those flying into our award-winning destination, to visit with yacht dealers, manufacturers, exhibitors, and our local and global vendors,” said Joseph Boschulte, USVI Commissioner of Tourism. “Experience the best of what the U.S. Virgin Islands offers on land and sea and shop for a yacht while you’re here.”

Yacht shoppers can take advantage of duty-free tax benefits when buying in the USVI.

It’s another major event for the Yacht Haven Grande Marina, which saw a major boom during the pandemic and continues to be a premier yachting jump-off point in the broader region.

The Government of the Virgin Islands also supports infrastructure on shore to maintain charter business interests such as an Economic Development Commission Tax Incentive Program for charter yachts.

Charter company professionals, financial companies and Marine Expo vendors with global and local products will be on hand to talk about charter management opportunities in the USVI.

The latest models of top brands will be on site, including Bali, Lagoon, Fountaine Pajot, Leopard, McConaghy, Azimut and Boston Whaler, to name a few.

Yacht buyers benefit from St. Thomas as a hub destination for transport ships delivering yachts from foreign manufacturing facilities.

Attendees can walk the docks, tour the yachts, meet the professional crew and receive a fully immersive experience on board, with the opportunity to test-sail directly from the show berth through the scenic Charlotte Amalie harbor to world-class cruising grounds.

“Teaming up with Waypoints Yacht Charters, our luxury yacht charter sister company, we will bring attendees a dynamic duo that not only meets but exceeds market expectations,” said Laurent Fabre, vice president of sales and marketing for Fort Lauderdale, FL-based Atlantic Cruising Yachts, which will feature two stunning Fountaine Pajot catamarans, the Aura 51 and Alegria 67. “Discover the epitome of luxury and performance as our Yacht Consultants unveil the revolutionary Fountaine Pajot Smart Electric propulsion system, designed to enhance the experience for private owners and elevate charter fleet operations.”

Daily yacht viewings combine with live music and cultural performances, starting with the Exhibitor’s Opening Ceremony & Reception on May 9, from 5-7 p.m.

VIBE and Cutlass & Cane, Yacht Haven Grande St. Thomas’ newest restaurant, have partnered to produce a curated Food & Wine Experience, with lunch served daily from 12-3 p.m. including wine pairings.

Yacht Haven Grande is also home to Blue 11, which has been featured in the 50 Best Restaurants in the Caribbean ranking.

All attendees can also visit a variety of pop-up bars featuring many beverages distributed by West Indies Company, including St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands-made Mutiny Island Vodka, the world’s first and finest Island Vodka made from breadfruit and Caribbean rainwater and St. Thomas-crafted Leatherback Brewing Company’s products, which offers craft beer made with Caribbean-grown ingredients.

Just a few weeks after Marriott opened its new Courtyard Marriott in the Dominican Republic’s capital, the company has debuted another new hotel in Santo Domingo.

The new Santo Domingo Marriott Hotel Piantini is the first classic Marriott-branded hotel in the city, with designs by Boris Pena Architects and 207 rooms with views of the capital’s skyline.

The hotel includes a rooftop pool on the 21st floor, along with a fitness center, an all-day eatery called Mo’orea, along with a lobby bar.

Puerto Rico has more than 130 hotels, which is a lot to choose from. But there are some that stand out for their history, unique location, authentic vibe, luxury experience — and some with a combination of all of the above. These are the Puerto Rico hotels and resorts that draw us back to the Island of Enchantment time and again, whether it feels like visiting an old friend or experiencing a new property for the first time.

This is the crown jewel of Puerto Rican hospitality, an ultra-luxe resort that delivers the promise of transcendent luxury in the newly-resurgent Dorado Beach, one of the hottest destinations in the hemisphere since the pandemic. People who know luxury destinations like Little Dix Bay in the British Virgin Islands and the former Caneel Bay on St. John won’t be surprised to know that this is another classic property founded by Laurance Rockefeller, who had a knack for building on perfect beaches and the foresight to buy up and keep wild lots of pristine land around his hotels.

The Sheraton Old San Juan was a solid if unspectacular property; Now it’s the Rumbao, a reinvention of the Sheraton property and part of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio, retainining its predecessor’s unique location near the Old San Juan cruise port. The old city is right at the doorstep of this freshly renovated hotel, as are the shops, bars and restaurants comprising The Landing.

Don Rafa Boutique Hotel & Residences, San Juan

A former family home in San Juan’s Miramar district debuted in 2023 as a 39-room boutique hotel with a midcentury vibe and a collector’s eye for vibrant local artwork, which is displayed throughout the property’s public spaces. Canvas, the rooftop restaurant, nods to the creative decor as well as a menu that paints outside the lines, dipping into a palette of Puerto Rican and international influences.

The Wyndham Palmas resort in Puerto Rico.

Wyndham Palmas Beach & Golf Resort, Palmas del Mar

This property has gone through several iterations over the years, but its newest one seems like a keeper, following a “dramatic” renovation. There’s a lot to do here, too: when not strolling or sunning on Trova Beach, guests can hike through a forest of Pterocarpus trees, tennis or pickle ball, ride a horse on the beach — the activity list is extensive for a resort of this size. But the biggest story at the Wyndham Palmas is the golf: a pair of courses designed by Rees Jones and Gary Player, respectively.

The beach at the Caribe Hilton hotel in San Juan.

The Caribe Hilton, San Juan

It’s said that the bar at the Caribe Hilton was where the first pina colada cocktail was shaken up (although a competing version of history has its birthplace at the must-visit Barrachina in Old San Juan) Originally a hand-blended drink — the frozen version came later — the Pina colada is still served, in several variations, at the hotel’s lobby-located Caribar. The Caribe Hilton manages to keep touch with its mid-century elegance while still presenting as a fresh, modern resort, making it a truly iconic address for a San Juan stay.

El conquistador

The El Conquistador, Fajardo

The “El Con” has a legendary name and a location to match. This is a big resort, and getting bigger: currently with 368 rooms, the resort will grow back to its original size of 750 rooms once fully recovered from damage from 2017’s Hurricane Maria. Hotels this expansive can be overwhelming, but the El Con has something of a pressure-relief valve in the form of a private offshore oasis, the 100-acre Palomino Island, which has sandy beaches, water sports activities, and its own restaurant. Activities abound, from golf and tennis to a water park and spa.

Villa Montaña Beach Resort, Aguadilla

With just 76 rooms on 35 acres of beachfront property, Villa Montaña is a boutique hotel with individually designed and decorated guest quarters in a part of Puerto Rico less frequently visited by tourists. Walking and hiking paths weave through the surrounding jungle, there’s horseback riding on the beach and snorkeling offshore, and golf is available at the nearby Royal Isabela and Punta Borinquen courses. The rustic, alfresco Eclipse restaurant is one of the top culinary spots on Puerto Rico’s west coast.

Location, location location: it doesn’t get any better than this hotel located in a former convent in the heart of Old San Juan. A stay here is to literally weave yourself into the tapestry of the city’s history: the yellow, Spanish Colonial building has been a fixture on San Juan’s cobblestone streets for more than 370 years. The 81 guest rooms are located in galleries surrounding a peaceful interior courtyard; modern amenities include a rooftop pool and exclusive beach club for guests.

The post Rum Journal: From Martinique, an Exciting New Trio of Caribbean Rums appeared first on Caribbean Journal.

It just might be the most remarkable rum distillery in the whole Caribbean: the Rhum JM distillery in Macouba in Martinique, set inside the rainforest at the base of the island’s towering Mont Pelee volcano.

For nearly two centuries, Rhum JM has put out some of the world’s greatest rum expressions, from its celebrated rhum blanc to a rarefied collection of aged rums.

A large part of the rum’s brilliance is due to its extraordinary terroir. You see, unlike molasses-based rums, the sugarcane-juice rhum agricole of the French Caribbean is made from pure sugar cane juice. That means every year the harvest is different, every year the product is different, and the way in which the cane is grown, from its varietal to its altitude to its soil to the its location in the corner of a particular parcel can impact the final rum. If you know rhum agricole, you’ve seen the wonderful ways which French Caribbean producers experiment with all of these factors and more.

But while terroir is essential to Martinique’s rum, it’s not the only thing that matters, of course.

More than a decade ago, on my first visit to the Macouba distillery, I was immediately struck by the sight of blue-coated workers at the distillery charring the barrels right outside of the facility.

At the time, even in rhum agricole, that was a somewhat rare practice. But it underscored JM’s commitment to ensuring the quality of every single variable that makes a rum great.

The company’s latest release is a testament to precisely that: the Atelier des Rhums series (literally “rum workshop” series), a new trio of rums, each of which highlights a different barrel charring profile (and varied wood types) — and the ways each one can influence the flavor notes of a rum.

The special release has three expressions: Jardin Fruité, Fumee Volcanique and Epices Creoles. The rums are aimed in part at bartenders, who can use their unique characteristics to add untold dimensions to their cocktails.

But the rums are equally fascinating to the connoisseur, lovely expressions of JM’s singular terroir and rum ethos put together by master blender Karine Lassalle.

The Epices Creole, “creole spices,” has a minimum of three years of aging within virgin barrels, with a profile that evokes a spicy note, bottled at a very welcome 46 degrees.

Jardin Fruite (bottled at 42 degrees), “fruity garden,” is a 24-month expression with a mix of French and American cask aging and several different chars aimed at a fruitier profile.

The final, Fumee Volcanique, “volcanic smoke,” has what JM calls an “extreme” charring, with just 12 to 14 months of aging at a lovely, robust 49 degrees.

So what are they like?

The names are true to their profiles.

The Epices Creoles is definitely spice-forward: on the nose there are hints of cardamom, clove, caramel and a hint of fennel; the flavor profile is marked by orange peel, cacao nib and cinnamon and a bold finish.

The Jardin Fruité has an aroma of almond, carambola and apricot; you’ll find flavors of banana, mango and cane stalk, with a lovely hint of minerality, rooted in the volcanic soil; the finish is beautifully rounded, with a note of cucumber and melon.

The Fumée Volcanique’s nose is filed with cane stalk and earth; you’ll find smoky notes of tobacco, dark chocolate, toasted bread, pepper and a whisper of citrus.

If you’ve ever made a ti’ punch, or substituted in a rhum blanc for a molasses rum in a daiquiri or a planteur, you know just how transformative agricole rums can be in a cocktail.

Each of these will take a regular cocktail and turn it into something more. But these are also fine sippers, particularly the Jardin Fruite, which was the most rounded and drinkable neat.

They’re not just good, they’re interesting, a wonderful example of the kind of intellectual creativity and experimentation you’ll find in the world of rhum agricole. Tasting the trio in one sitting is a great way to take a journey through the world of JM.

It’s exactly what you’d expect from a magical, remarkable French Caribbean distillery, one that continues to put out some of the best rums on earth.

After the Dominican Republic set the Caribbean’s all-time record with 10 million total visitors, local tourism officials have another major ambition for 2024: 11 million.

That’s the goal stated by Tourism Minister David Collado, who said that the number should be achievable if current trends hold.

Indeed, last month, the country welcomed 1.05 million visitors (sea and air), including 755,832 by air alone.

The Sunscape resort in Puerto Plata.

That’s a 14 percent increase compared to the same month in 2023, and a 25 percent jump compared to the same month in 2019, before the onset of the pandemic.

On the cruise side, cruise passengers grew by 19 percent compared to last year.

Unsurprisingly, Punta Cana’s airport remains the country’s primary hub, accounting for just under 60 percent of all visitors in February.

If you haven’t noticed, the Dutch Caribbean island of Curaçao has been among the fastest-growing destinations in the Caribbean in the last year, with record-breaking arrivals, a surging hotel pipeline, major new flights (including a big expansion from Delta) and a palpable sense of tourism energy.

It’s a renaissance that largely began with the entry to the market of the stunning Sandals Royal Curacao a few years ago, and it hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. But the island’s hotel product is far more than one large resort: it’s a diverse, eclectic, fascinating collection of resorts, large and small, all-inclusive and boutique, historic and cutting-edge. Are you planning a vacation to Curacao? Here are some of our favorites on the island right now. As always, our editors put together a comprehensive selection that includes options for every different kind of vacation, whether you’re looking for a budget-friendly affordable hotel or a classic beach resort or the best of all worlds.

The beach at the Baoase Luxury Resort in Curacao.

Baoase Luxury Resort This isn’t just the best resort in Curacao — it’s among the best anywhere in the Caribbean. Chef Rene Klop’s breathtakingly good food, the private beach, the private island, the magnificent service, we could go on and on. That’s of course without mentioning the spectacular Bali-style rooms, many of which have their own pools or hot tubs, creating your own private oasis for the duration of your stay. It’s just that good — and it’s better than ever.

Blue Bay Curacao It just might be the buzziest place to stay on the island, and that’s in no small part due to the debut of the world-renowned Brass Boer restaurant, the three-Michelin-star-pedigree eatery out of Bonaire. But the food is just the beginning of the story at Blue Bay, which has a private beach, an excellent 18-hole golf course and spacious rooms.

Van Der Valk Kontiki Beach Resort It’s an all-day party: Mambo Beach, Curacao’s capital of cool, an enclave of beach bars, eateries, pools and non-stop entertainment. Our favorite Mambo spot is the Kontiki, one of the island’s most complete resorts. There’s something for everyone, from a trio of beach clubs and restaurants to a cleverly-designed poolscape that winds its way through a lush garden.

Papagayo Beach Resort Jan Thiel Beach is one of the hippest spots on the island, focused around an almost impossibly turquoise, sparkling beach that almost feels like a pool. And it’s anchored by the Papagayo, an ultra-modern, luxe retreat with a mix of traditional rooms and large villas perfect for families or groups.

The rooftop pool is a big draw.

Brion City Hotel BW Signature Collection There’s no better way to enjoy the heart of the cultural gem that is Willemstad than this well-run, 100-room boutique-style hotel with sleek rooms and a rooftop pool. It’s also arguably the best-value hotel on the island.

We love the Awa bungalows.

Sandals Royal Curacao As we already mentioned, the stunning Sandals Royal Curacao helped usher in Curacao’s recent tourism boom, with its sparkling design (including those lovely Awa Seaside Butler Bungalows, which come with their own private plunge pools). The dining program is also a standout, with eight eateries, including a new addition for the brand: three food trucks set right on the sand.

Kura Botanica Curacao’s newest adults-only is an 82-room historic hotel that’s a destination in its own right, with a full-fledged village on offer with everything from eateries and shops to a museum, all within a short stroll. It’s as charming a place to stay as there is on the island.

LionsDive Beach Resort With Curacao’s depth as a destination it’s sometimes easy to forget that the island is actually one of the region’s premier diving hotspots, with more than 70 different dive sites scattered around its coastline. And if that’s the kind of vacation you’re seeking, look no further than the LionsDive, the venerable dive resort with an on-site PADI Dive center and a great reef right at the property’s edge. (It’s also a top option for snorkelers, too).

Avila Beach Curacao A pair of private beaches; a lovely spa called Cloud Nine; a broad mix of rooms and suites; and the best live music anywhere on the island. Avila is a Caribbean signature, with a cult following of frequent Caribbean travelers and a warm, always-friendly ambience. And while it’s not an all-inclusive, it does offer a full-board option.

We’re also big fans of the rooftop “beach.”

Renaissance Wind Creek Curacao Resort A Curacao institution, the Renaissance continues to be a well-rounded hotel with a strong location in the heart of downtown, a terrific casino and, in what we love the most, the Renaissance Mall: a bustling district of cafes, shops and eateries built around the historic 19th century Rif Fort.

The Rif.

From the rainforests to the rum, the haute cuisine to the beaches, the French Caribbean island of Martinique is among the most diverse, fascinating places to visit in the wider region.

And now it’s easier than ever to fly to Martinique’s capital of Fort-de-France, thanks to a ramp-up by American Airlines.

For the current season, American is operating three weekly nonstop flights between Miami and Martinique — that means service on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The Hotel Bakoua in Martinique and its famous floating bar.

More importantly, American Airlines has upgraded its aircraft from the smaller Embraer 175 to a Boeing 737 MAX — meaning significantly more seats on the Miami-Fort-de-France route.

It’s a boon for the island, which continues to offer up an authentic, interesting vacation experience and a very different way to vacation in the Caribbean.

The Habitation Clement is a must-visit.

Martinique has a host of different options, whether you want to follow the Route de Rhum, one that’s comprised of visiting the more than 12 different artisanal rum distilleries that dot the island; check out charming boutique hotels like the Plein Soleil on the Atlantic coast or the lovely, classic Bakoua in the tourism hub of Trois-Ilets.

And then there’s one of our favorite parts of the island: the northern Caribbean coast of the island, home to the so-called Caribbean Pompeii, Saint Pierre, which was considered the Paris of the Caribbean before a tragic volcanic eruption in 1902; and Le Carbet, the paradisiacal beach town that’s home to renowned Chef Guy Ferdinand’s Le Petibonum — a bucket list stop in the Caribbean beach bar trail.

Le Petibonum.

We’re also big fans of Le Diamant, the beach town marked by the offshore rock formation called the Diamond Rock, a volcanic-sand coastline that’s increasingly becoming a hotspot on the island.

A room at the Hotel Plein Soleil in Martinique.

Looking for a culture trip? In the capital of Fort de France, you’ll find a rich history, a place filled with vibrant architecture, tiny boutique hotels and colorful markets.

It’s hard to see everything in one visit — such is the richness and breadth of the destination.

But with these expanded flights, it’s easier than ever to start your Martinique journey.

Nassau’s booming cruise port just made history again on Tuesday, when a record-breaking seven ships called on the recently-revamped downtown port.

More than 20,000 passengers came to Bahamian shores on ships including Carnival Liberty, Vision of the Seas, Disney Wish, Independence of the Seas, Sea Cloud Spirit, Carnival Paradise, and Carnival Elation.

It was a new record, just 10 months after the ribbon-cutting on the completely transformed Nassau Cruise Port last Spring.

The new port includes everything from an amphitheater to a Junkanoo Museum to six upgraded berths, all of which can accommodate the largest cruise ships in the world.

“This is a historic moment for The Bahamas and Nassau Cruise Port,” said Marques Williams, operations manager at the port. “It’s the first time we’ve had seven ships in port on the same day. This achievement is all thanks to a lot of teamwork. I have to give a big shout-out to the Nassau Harbour Pilot Association – they did a fantastic job maneuvering these vessels into port.”

The port is part of a resurgent Bahamian capital, one that has seen a dramatic renaissance in the last decade, from a walkable, attraction-filled downtown to sparkling new hotels like the Margaritaville Beach Resort and the reimagined British Colonial, the latter of which just officially reopened.

The sky is purple as the boat makes its way from tiny Union Island, and we’re met by torchlight and smiles as we make our way onto the dock.

For the next few days, this will be our island, our beach, our jewel in the heart of the Grenadines.

Peering around at the cottages and the palm trees, the lapping waves and the majestic expanse of the Grenadines, it almost feels surreal.

Palm Island has 135 acres.

What kind of Caribbean vacations do you dream about? Perhaps they involve remote retreats in the rainforest, or overwater bungalow hotels or private-plunge-pool suites set on a clifftop.

For many, though, it’s this one: the Robinson Crusoe fantasy: an uncrowded island, the feeling of having an entire beach just to yourself; fresh coconuts and rum punch on the sand and complete and utter serenity.

There’s one Caribbean private island that delivers the essence of that ideal: Palm Island, the legendary all-inclusive resort in the heart of the Grenadines.

The 43-room, 135-acre Palm Island, which is part of the Elite Island Resorts portfolio, has an enviable resume: five different sugar-white-sand beaches; a spa right on the sand; a waterfall pol; a tennis court and a pair of restaurants and bars.

The island is also home to two private villas.

The rooms are a mix of lush garden accommodations with their own palapas, toes-in-the-sand beachfront rooms, island lofts and suites that come with the “beach on your doorstep.”

For an extra degree of privacy (or space)m you can stay in one of the two stunning villas on property, one right on the beach, one perched on a hillside with spectacular views.

Even better? It’s an all-inclusive resort. The inclusions are endless: snorkeling, sailing, chef-driven food; and an impossible-to-match feeling of delicious seclusion.

Inside a beachfront room.

The food is particularly good (it’s a resort that regularly places in the lists of the best all-inclusives for food), with a local focus and its own on-site garden.

It’s a rare thing to find a private island that’s also all-inclusive — delivering the luxury and romance you expect with the all-inclusive convenience that travelers demand.

It’s easier than ever to get to the Grenadines, whether you fly through Barbados or, more conveniently, the fast-growing Argyle International Airport in St Vincent, which now has regular nonstop service from cities like Miami (on American Airlines), New York (on Caribbean Airlines) and Toronto (on Air Canada).

It’s a journey that always rewards the travelers that make it — with one of the Caribbean’s ultimate vacation experiences.

Canadian leisure carrier WestJet says it is significantly ramping up its flight network in the Caribbean for the summer season.

WestJet’s Latin American and Caribbean routes are growing by 57 percent this summer compared to the summer of 2023, according to a statement.

That includes a broader 56 percent in capacity out of Toronto to “sun destinations” like those in the region.

WestJet also has a codeshare partnership with Delta, opening up flights to that airline’s significant network in the Caribbean.

WestJet has been rapidly adding new routes to the region in the last few years, including popular new service between Toronto and the Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire that launched at the end of 2023.

Tipsy Scoop, which has three locations in New York State and another in Washington, DC, is opening its Bahamian location in Calpyso House in downtown Nassau, right across from the British Colonial hotel.
