SLASH BACKS PETITION TO INDUCT RORY GALLAGHER INTO ROCK HALL OF FAME

Slash has joined the campaign to have Irish guitar great, Rory Gallagher inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Gallagher, who passed away in 1995 from complications after a liver transplant, qualifies for induction as his first record was released in 1971 - far more than the requisite 25 years prior to nomination. The fan petition begins with "To: Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame We, the undersigned, declare that Rory Gallagher, Irish Blues guitarist and songwriter, should be inducted into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame as soon as possible. Rory Gallagher is now eligible for induction as his first record was released more than 25 years ago." The petition continues on to make a case for his induction and includes a list of artists that Gallagher has influenced such as: Brian May, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, John Hammond, The Edge, Gary Moore, Joe Bonamassa and of course, Slash.

Slash, who was himself nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for 2012 as part of Guns 'n' Roses, tweeted his support for the petition earlier this week asking followers to, "please sign this petition to help get Rory Gallagher inducted into RRHF." The petition can be found at www.ipetitions.com/petition/rorygallagherhalloffame/ and as of this morning has 8738 signatures.
