John Patrick Shanley’s Storefront Church, Starring Giancarlo Esposito and Tonya Pinkins, Begins May 16

Atlantic Theater Company’s world premiere production of John Patrick Stanley’s Storefront Church begins performances on May 16. Written and directed by Stanley, this will be the first production to play Atlantic’s newly renovated Linda Gross Theatre. The play will officially open June 11 and run through June 24.

The production will star Once Upon a Time and Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito, Tony winner Tonya Pinkins, Tony nominee Bob Dishy, Tony nominee Zach Grenier, Drama Desk winner Jordan Lage and Ron Cephas Jones.

Storefront Church completes Shanley's "Church and State" trilogy, which began with his Tony-winning play, Doubt. The show tells the story of a Bronx borough President (Esposito) who, forced by the mortgage crisis, must confront a local minister (Jones). The question in front of them is one that faces us all: What is the relationship between spiritual experience and social action?

Network Q&A: TBS/TNT's Michael Wright On Why He Saved Cougar Town And Plans For Next Season

Newly promoted TNT/TBS president/head of programming Michael Wright made a few new friends when he sealed a deal to pick up fan favorite comedy Cougar Town from ABC. After a quick negotiation, TBS ordered 15 episodes of the show, which will premiere its fourth season next winter. The network will also start airing Cougar Town repeats. Wright, who previously saved Southland after NBC canceled it, says there will be no changes to the sitcom. Meanwhile, over at TNT, Wright says he's eager to change the perception that the network's dramas only dabble in "self-seriousness or earnestness." Frank Darabont's L.A. Noir isn't ready to be ordered as a series, but Wright expects to air it on Sundays, where the network is specializing in genre shows like Falling Skies.

Get your pom poms ready! Bring It On: The Musical, the new cheerleading musical comedy, is coming to Broadway this summer, according to The New York Times. The show, directed and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler, will play the St. James Theatre for a limited engagement from July 12 through October 7. Opening night is set for August 1.

Bring It On was created by a gaggle of Tony winners. It features a book by Jeff Whitty (Avenue Q), music by Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights) and Tom Kitt (Next to Normal) and lyrics by Miranda and Amanda Green (High Fidelity). The show, which is loosely based on the 2000 Kirsten Dunst film of the same name, mixes the high-stakes world of competitive cheerleading and cutthroat high school politics.

The production received its world premiere at Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre last year and will have just completed a 13-stop tour when it reaches New York. The cast, currently playing in Toronto, features Taylor Louderman, Adrienne Warren, Ryann Redmond, Jason Gotay, Elle McLemore, Ariana DeBose, Gregory Haney, Neil Haskell, Janet Krupin, Kate Rockwell, Nick Womack and more.
